Sheikh Usman dan Fodio (1754–1817) was an Islamic scholar, reformer, and the founder of the Sokoto Caliphate. He led the Sokoto Jihad (1804–1808) to reform religious and social practices based on the Qur’an and Sunnah. Renowned for his scholarship, piety, and leadership, he authored numerous works on theology, law, and education.

Sheikh Abdullahi dan Fodio (1766–1829) was a distinguished scholar, jurist, and intellectual, and a key pillar of the Sokoto Caliphate. He was the younger brother of Sheikh Usman dan Fodio and administered the western region of the Caliphate. He made significant contributions to Islamic law, governance, and education through his writings.

Sultan Muhammadu Bello (1781–1837) was a scholar, statesman, and the second Sultan of Sokoto, succeeding his father in 1817. Under his leadership, the Caliphate reached its administrative and intellectual peak. He was a prolific author and reformer, known for his works on governance, history, and medicine.
